As we continue to enhance our communication strategies, The Sayreville Office of Emergency Management, in partnership with the Sayreville Police Department and the Borough of Sayreville, is excited to announce that we will be upgrading to a new mass notification alerting system in the coming weeks: RAVE by Motorola. This new system will be replacing the Borough's current system that many of you know as "Hyper-Reach."
This new system is a critical upgrade that will significantly improve our ability to deliver timely, accurate, and effective communications during emergencies, routine announcements, and organizational updates.
Some key features we look forward to sharing:
π Timely Communication in Emergencies: The new system enables rapid dissemination of urgent information to all relevant parties, whether employees, students, or stakeholders, across multiple channels (text, email, phone, etc.). This ensures that everyone receives the message quickly and can take immediate action when needed. Whether it's a natural disaster, security incident, or system outage, our ability to respond promptly is essential.
π Multi-Channel Reach: In today's digital age, it's vital to ensure communication reaches people where they are. This system supports a range of communication channels, including SMS, email, voice messages, and push notifications via a dedicated mobile app. This helps ensure that the message is received regardless of individual preferences or accessibility, improving overall response rates and engagement.
π Our community-specific RAVE Guardian app (available to download for Apple and Android devices). By downloading and logging into the Guardian App, you will have access to all community alerts, a call directory pre-loaded with popular phone numbers specific to the Borough (Borough Hall, Code Enforcement, Public Works, Police Non-Emergency Number), a Custom Content directory with links to various websites including the Borough, Police Department, OEM, Sayreville Recreation Department, JCPL Outage Map, local weather, traffic, and more!
π Our new system provides greater reliability, with multiple backup options in place. If one communication method fails (e.g., email delivery issues), alternative channels will be used, ensuring that messages are still delivered without delay. This reduces the risk of communication breakdowns during critical times.
π The ability to create polling messages, i.e. following a severe storm, residents of specific locations can be targeted a specific message requiring a response asking if they are OK or in need of assistance.
π Ability to "chat" with authorities regarding non-emergent situations. This will also be helpful in alleviating the police dispatch center during severe weather events. By logging into the Guardian App, you can report non-life-threatening storm damage such as trees down and clogged storm drains causing minor flooding conditions. You will be issued a ticket number and communicate directly with services handling the issue until the problem is resolved and ticket is closed.
π The Mobile Guardian App is not mandatory and alerts can still be received via text message/email as before. Emergency Alerts will be received via 5 digit "short code" and non-emergency alerts will be sent via a designated 10-digit number. (You can opt out of these at any time simply by replying STOP).
π Compliance and Record-Keeping: The new system ensures we meet regulatory requirements for certain industries by providing detailed logs and tracking of all messages sent. This feature not only enhances accountability but also helps with audits and compliance reporting, ensuring that we maintain the highest standards of operational transparency.
π Improved Employee and Public Safety: Ultimately, the goal of the Mass Notification System is to protect and support our employees, residents, teachers, students, and the general public by ensuring that everyone has access to critical information when it matters most. Whether it's a public health alert, severe weather warning, or an internal operational update, this system is a vital tool in maintaining a safe and informed community.
We are confident that this new system will help us communicate more effectively, protect the well-being of our community, and continue to uphold our commitment to operational excellence and safety, especially in times of crisis or emergency.
Thank you for your attention and support as we implement this vital communication upgrade, and we look forward to sharing this new service with you and keeping you all informed in a timely manner.
Respectfully,
The Sayreville Office of Emergency Management
