Department: Tax Assessor

Field Inspections

Release Date: June 05, 2024

The Tax Assessor’s office has begun in-person field inspections on building improvements that would change the assessed value of the property.  This ensures the correct calculation of the change of assessed value.  This is a normal practice of the assessor’s office.

Field inspections were put on hold during the COVID pandemic, and even though the assessor’s office is allowed to use the plans from the Construction Department to calculate an assessed value, an in-person inspection is more accurate.  As a courtesy, we will try to call the property owners to schedule the inspection, prior to going out.  You are not required to be home for the inspection.

Just as you prepared for the improvement of your property by taking out a permit, you should plan on seeing us once the project is completed or nearly completed.  We may also stop by during construction to see how far along the project is.  Please note, not scheduling a final inspection for your building permit does not delay the added assessment.

Should you have any questions, please contact the assessor’s office.
